Neven-Du-Mont-Haus

The Neven DuMont building in Cologne - functional creativity along classic lines

Behind a free-standing 150 m long and 25 m high glass acoustic barrier extends the shell of the press and publishing centre:
two 5-storey office wings of classic "U" arrangement connected by a green-planted atrium. 30,500 m2 of useful floor space divided into team rooms, open plan offices and individual offices for 1,200 employees. The room-high glazed façade and the tempered glass doors leading into the corridors create open, light-flooded spaces, so imparting a communicative atmosphere that promotes wellbeing. This vibrant spaciousness has been further emphasised by architects HPP through their sensitively applied interior concept: beech panels, blue carpet and oak parquet flooring complement the "raw materials" of glass, fair-faced concrete and hot-dip galvanised steel. Vertical access to the building is provided by a 48 m high glass tower which gives the newly developed city site its landmark.

Prominent Features

The solution for the press building

Maximum functionality and harmonic integration were the requirements of the architects HPP when specifying the door hardware. In order to properly implement the principle of uniform radii in the project, OGRO completely redeveloped its ZS 8111 lever handle. This resulted in a completely new product family that includes special knobs and purposemade solutions for narrow-stile sets. The tempered glass doors of the offices, with artistically refined glass panels, are equipped with locks and hinges of the Junior-Office series from DORMA-Glas. These blend harmoniously into the overall appearance and are also able to withstand even the most rigorous of usage. The elegant Softline cam action closers DORMA TS 93 (fire and smoke check doors) and TS 92 (lighter interior doors) ensure both maximum ease of access and maximum security in all single and double door sets. DORMA SRT emergency exit controls at all escape points round off the scope of supply that stemmed from an extensive and extremely fruitful collaboration between the DORMA Group and an exacting group of architects.
