DORMA's Divisional Growth Strategy (Attached is DORMA Aust Newsletter Dec 2006)
DORMA Aust Newsletter Dec 2006: All DORMA Divisions in new BHP Billiton Building
DORMA commenced business in Australia in 1982 with its Door Control Sales office based in Melbourne. During the next two decades, DORMA acquired a number of businesses starting with BWN Industries (Aust.) Pty Ltd in 1995 which, catapulted the company into market leadership for Automatic doors in Australia. We expanded our service operation and bought Auto Entry in 1997, followed by the acquisition of Edington Automatic Doors, Horizon Automatic Doors in Australia, and Horizon Auto Doors & Security Systems Ltd in New Zealand.
These acquisitions facilitated a third brand strategy in Automatics (in addition to DORMA and BWN), creating market opportunities in new market segments, that enabled us to establish a significant DORMA office with factory, warehouse and distribution facilities in New Zealand. To advance the situation, we bought Auto Door Systems in Western Australia in 2004 and Automatic Door and Building Maintenance Ltd (ABM) in Auckland in 2005.
The net result of all this is that we have a powerful Australian and New Zealand Automatics business that has more than tripled in sales since 1995.
Our Glass division has undergone a stepchange in structure and concentration of resources, and the introduction of new products. In July 2005, DORMA acquired CDS Patch Fittings (Aust) - a leading specialist in glass fittings (including hardware, fittings, locks and door rails). Consequently, we now have an exceptional quality DORMA Glass Division in Australia and New Zealand. Meanwhile, the Door Controls division has enjoyed continued growth while introducing many new products such as the ST9600 series mortice lock, lever furniture and the revolutionary new TS97 door closer.
In May 2005 Modernfold (Australia) Pty Ltd, and Service National Pty Ltd joined the DORMA family. These acquisitions – along with the global purchase of Hueppe - set an exciting course for growth in Australasia in the movable wall market, matching DORMA’s International Group Divisional Strategies.
The power of one - DORMA
Our mission now is to grow our four operating divisions of Door Controls, Automatics, Glass and Movable Walls, underlined with our strategic vision to expand Service cross-divisionally.
We are progressively focussing on the “power of one” i.e. The Brand DORMA. This means the acquired brands of Auto Entry, Auto Door Systems, Edingtons and BWN in Automatics will progressively fade.
The huge opportunity for cross-divisional activities across marketing, sales, operations, logistics, products, service and infrastructure allow the opportunity to invest and develop the businesses to new heights. In short, our future is very exciting with great opportunities for those who have the desire to succeed and the will to make it happen.
