Movable wall makes HUGE entrance at Auckland Arena (Attached is the DORMA NZ Newsletter Feb 2006)
Auckland Arena opens its doors to the New Zealand public later this year using an innovative adaptation on a DORMA solution. To ensure compliance with stringent client and local body acoustic and multifunctional requirements, DORMA has been commissioned to design, supply and install the stadium’s acoustic truck dock doors.
The first installation of its kind in New Zealand, the operable panel wall covers three
separate truck docks. Standing at a statuesque five metres high and totaling14.4metres wide, each dock can be independently operated, or, all three can be opened, and the panels ‘parked’ out of harm’s way depending on the requirement at the time. This easy-to-manouvre, giant-sized operable panel wall is acoustic-sealed, security-proofed and weather-resistant.
Currently under construction by Mainzeal Construction Ltd, Auckland Arena is at Quay Park alongside the historic Auckland Railway Station. It is deemed to be a significant icon for the city with the capacity, facilities and operational flexibility to support large community events as well as international sports and entertainment events.
Gomathi Nayagam, DORMA’s Senior Sales Consultant for Movable Walls, says this unique installation demonstrates the versatility of the product and its modular application: “It’s a great example of thinking outside the square. Movable walls are commonly used in internal settings, but here we have customised and developed a design exclusively for external purposes while meeting the strict noise control guidelines due to the close proximity of residential apartment blocks.” Crease-free and stylish looking, the wall is being constructed to meet a 41 STC rating, incorporating painted steel panel skins providing additional durability.
DORMA’s range of movable walls are all modular in size and design, and are becoming increasingly popular amongst clients who want maximum flexibility with minimum fuss.
